A Message from Our President
CHAPTER CHAMPIONSHIP DEADLINES are looming on
the horizon! You can link to all of the forms and
information at the bottom of this article, but two things
you need to focus on NOW. A) Deadline to sign up is
June 6th! 2) Prior
to the last update of your handicap, you need to have the
equivalent of TWO 18-hole rounds posted. (This is dependent
on when your particular handicap service updates their
handicaps. I will use the one closest to the Championship
date.)
And now, here it is! The announcement you've all been
waiting for! Zona Trahan has negotiated (BLESS YOU Zona!)
with Blackhorse to get us discounted practice rounds prior
to our Championship on June
20th! As you know, Blackhorse is a very popular
course, and they stay PLENTY busy all the time. They didn't
NEED to give us this discount. Please be sure and thank
them when you sign in for your round.
What you need to know:
- We are getting a 10% discount on any and all tee times.
- When you call, identify yourself as an EWGA member and
mention the 10% discount.
- We are playing the NORTH course for our Championship. You
might want to specify that course when you call.
- When you go, TAKE YOUR EWGA MEMBERSHIP CARD or EWGA key
fob to identify yourself as an EWGA member.
I was not able to negotiate ANYTHING when I set up our
Championship... which is probably why I'm not in sales...
but Zona stepped in and made this happen. Zona, on behalf
of all of the members participating in the Championship and
the entire Championship Committee, THANK YOU for your time
and effort!

The semi-finals for our region are being held on
July 25th right here
in Houston... at Blackhorse... on the North Course. I'm
looking forward to Houston having a STRONG representation at
the National Championship again this year!

 CHANGE
NOTICE -- West Side Play Group at Bear Creek Golf World
Due to the horrendous down-pour on Tuesday, April
28, our west-side playground (Bear Creek Golf World) is
closed and is not scheduled to reopen until
[approximately] Thursday, May 14th.
Knowing our EWGA ladies need their weekly fix of golf,
this Tuesday's play will take place at Pine Crest Golf
Course. Tee times are scheduled for: 5:02, 5:10 and
5:18 pm (more tee times will be added if needed).
Unlike play at Bear Creek, an RSVP
IS REQUIRED. Please send your RSVP to Frida
Eliasdottir at
leagues@ewga.org on or before Tuesday, May 12 at
10:00 am.
Cost for play is $20 plus tax. After a fun round of
exciting golf, the ladies will meet up at the clubhouse
for a few cold brews and to unwind. Pine Crest is
located at 3080 Gessner Road -- which is the corner of
Clay Road and Gessner.

You want to do a scramble team for Chapter Championship?
Great - Bring your team out to play together! Encourage the
other teams to compete, too!
Not sure about competing in Chapter Championship? Come to
the May event and see how your day goes, then decide about
Chapter Championship!
Sure you don't want to compete but just want to play with
the EWGA Houston girls? Great - just sign up to play for
fun as an individual or play a scramble with your own team
or with others who also want to scramble but don't have a
foursome!
Something else you want that I haven't listed? Tell me -
I'll do my best to make it work for you!

Your Score! Get Ready to Compete!
We have one opportunity left scheduled
for you to work on your game.
Jim Hardy (yes - Elizabeth's husband) has agreed to do
three clinics for us at a GREAT price and the chapter is
adding to the bargain.
Jim Hardy is the PGA Director of Instruction at
Hearthstone Country Club in Houston. Each clinic will be
at this location. Jim has quoted us a fee of $15 per
member and the Houston EWGA will pay ½ o f the fee for
each member. That's right your net cost to lower your
score is $7.50 per clinic. Non-members may attend for
$20 per person per clinic.

following clinics by contacting Jill at
Education@ewga.org. The clinics will be limited to
18. Jim will have assistants to keep the student to
teacher ratio at 6:1.
June 3, 2009 at 6pm
Tournament Prep: This clinic is a basics and refresher
course in putting, short game and full swing. You will
also learn a good practice routine to go through in the
final days before a tournament to ensure that you peak
on tournament day. It will also cover sound advice for
the do's and don'ts before a tournament to give your
best chance to play at your best.

Do you play the USA with
EWGA?
Even if you've not boarded a plane in a year, you may have
"Played the USA with EWGA".
Even if the courses you've played in the past year don't
exceed your county lines, you may have "Played the USA with
EWGA".
What do we mean by this? If you've played a course that
offered you savings due to your membership in the EWGA, your
experience qualifies.
If you've enjoyed special offers or savings of any kind,
your experience qualifies.
If you participate in the new online EWGA social networking
sites and you've connected with members from across the USA
, your connections qualify.
If you've played in an intra-Chapter event and met members

brief video clips or still pictures accompanied by a brief
story on our website, on You Tube, on the EWGA group on
Facebook, and in our Connections e-newsletter. Now, all we
need is for you to share your story!
